Department of Microbiology
Our Vision
To conceptualize and practice Biological Sciences in general and Microbiology in particular for the development of the Community.
Our Mission
1. To impart quality education through experiential learning. 2. To upgrade as a centre of excellence in academics and research in the field of Microbiology 3. To mould professionally competent graduates who can pursue career and research in Microbiology
The Department of Microbiology was established with the UG program in 1998 and upgraded to the PG department in 2001. The motto is to empower the student community with independent and critical thinking ability upholding moral values. The department focuses on imparting quality education and providing an excellent research environment through its ongoing programs.
Laboratories are the highlights of the Department that are spacious and well equipped with basic and advanced tools for experimental and research activities in Lifesciences. All the basic instruments are available for practice by students for getting a hands-on experience. A central instrumentation facility has been set up housing the latest and high-end instruments including PCR-thermal-cycler, Shimadzu Double UV-Vis-spectrophotometer, Gel-Doc system, electrophoresis facilities, microfuge, low-temperature storage facility, high-speed refrigerated centrifuge, 96 well microplate reader, etc. The laboratory is suitable for Microbiology and Molecular biology works and is regularly being used by students and faculty members from nearby institutions.

The department has a tremendous record in holding the championship in college arts festival and a good performance in the sports activities. Students are regularly elected for participation in University level competitions. Different days, particularly associated with science, are observed in style with diverse activities and full-strength participation of students. Department is keen to organize National/International/State level seminars and invited lectures in Microbiology and allied subjects for the academic exposure of the students.
The department has alumni members working at various government and non-government organizations. There are many alumni members who cleared UGC-CSIR, ICAR-NET, and other competitive examinations. A good percentage of students are turning in to research activities after the regular studies. It is highly remarkable that a good number of students are getting admission to central and state universities for their PG programs.
